DOZENS of crazy extreme sports fans have taken part in the first ever Nude Sledging Championships.
The weird "Goosebumps Competition" took place in Braunlage, in central Germany with 40 contestants of all ages, shapes and sizes joining in for a chance to win the 1000-euro (£900) prize.
Dressed only in black pants, helmets, gloves and shoes - with scarves optional - they hurled themselves down the 89-meter runway in front of a 12,000-strong crowd of supporters.
Remarkably, despite their lack of protective gear, there were no injuries other than a few scrapes and bruises.
The winner was 19-year-old Robert Gottschalk.
Christian Klamt, a spokesman for the event, said: "It is probably one of the biggest events that Braunlage ever had. Nobody expected so large a crowd. Even the organisers only expected 2 - 3,000."
Nude promotional events, intended to bring about a tourism boost, seem to be taking off in the region. Two villages in nearby Saxony-Anhalt are discussing setting up a naturist walking trail.
The success of the Nude Sledging Championships, and the enthusiasm of the locals, has inspired organisers to make this an annual event.
