NAKED girls took to the streets of London to protest against the annual Pamplona bull run.

The activists stripped off outside the Spanish Embassy, in Belgrave Square.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) group gathered at midday to protest against the annual bullfighting season which kicks off in two weeks.

The topless protesters strapped bullfighting spears known as banderillas to their backs and doused themselves in blood.

A PETA spokeswoman said prior to the Running of the Bulls, electric prods and sharp sticks are used to rile the bulls into a frenzy and that after the event the animals are tormented and slaughtered in the bullring.

In addition, bullfighting takes place every day during the week-long festival.

She claimed that before the bullfights even begin, bulls are often debilitated with tranquilisers and beaten, and petroleum jelly is rubbed into their eyes to blind them.

PETA's Poorva Joshipura said: "Tormenting animals for entertainment is a violent relic of the Dark Ages and should be stopped", says.

"If Spain wishes to declare its place among modern European nations, it must stop the shameful public practice of slowly torturing cattle to death."
