Man spends ten years piecing together ripped up love letters
Love torn
A widower has spent more than 10 years piecing together thousands of fragments of love letters torn up by his late wife.
Ted Howard, 82, of Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, wrote more than 90 notes to his beloved Mollie between 1948 and 1953.
But Mrs Howard ripped up each one in the 1950s after finding someone reading them. She later stuffed them into a cushion.
Now, three years after his wife's death, at the age of 74, Mr Howard has completed the painstaking task of putting the letters back together.
"I travelled to Ireland, France and Holland testing farm machinery as part of my job and would write to Mollie from each hotel I stayed at," said the retired farm worker.
"When I retired, I wanted to find out where I'd been so I took them out of the cushion and started putting them back together.
"It took a lot of patience but I've been like that all of my life - if I want to do something, I do it.
"It has brought back a lot of happy memories for me."
One of the notes said: "It seems months since Sunday when I last saw you. There does not seem to be a lot more to write about, my love, so until we meet again, I send you all my love, from your ever loving sweetheart, Ted."
Mr Howard, who has three children and six grandchildren, plans to write a book about the letters.
