TUBE drivers have come in for a lot of stick lately.
All it takes is a city-crippling strike or two and everyone’s suddenly on your backs.

But we at thelondonpaper also know that the wit and wisdom of your common-or-garden subway jockey is second only to that of the London cabbie – and we celebrate some of their more memorable efforts here.
"Please allow the doors to close. Try not to confuse this with 'please hold the doors open'. The two are distinct and separate instructions"
From the delays caused by a line controller’s “E&B syndrome - not knowing his elbow from his backside” to a deeply unsympathetic "We can't move off because some idiot has their f****ng hand stuck in the door", the Tube driver isn’t just the blood in the capital’s metal veins, he is also the compere of the world’s biggest captive-audience comedy club.
We notice that they have a particular penchant for public humiliation. While it has to be said that if you void your bowels on the platform or indulge in a spot of self-gratification during rush hour you probably deserve everything you get, their glee in inflicting shame is something to behold.
Take a look through the huge gallery of our favourites. Some of them might be apocryphal, but who cares? They’re hilarious.
And if you’ve heard any good ones yourself, let us know below and we’ll put our favourites up soon.
