He's been hard at work promoting his latest flick Hancock for the last seven days and today Will Smith's latest blockbuster movie is released.

But for once it wasn't the actor's one-liners that have been making Londoners giggle.

A workman’s break left thousands of Londoners in hysterics as one of the biggest billboards in the capital read: "Will Smith - cock."

The “slight” came about as lettering was being taken down from a huge fascia board above a cinema in Leicester Square that was promoting the Hollywood star’s new film Hancock.

One amused passer-by snapped the sign just hours after Smith wowed fans on the red carpet at the movie’s premiere last night.

A spokesman for the Vue Cinema said today: “When I turned up for work at 8am this morning, the lettering was in the middle of being taken down.

“Someone must have found the work in progress funny. The lettering has all been removed now and new signage will be put up again for the film’s official release.”

Thousands of supporters screamed for Smith when he posed for photographs and signed autographs in front of a giant screen on June 18.

He was joined by co-stars Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman.

Smith plays the title character, a bungling superhero who, in spite of having the best intentions, always leaves a trail of destruction.

The 39-year-old addressed his fans directly: "You guys always take really good care of me... this is a beautiful thing."

He said of his character: "Hancock is a bit of a drinker and he's kind of an alcoholic superhero... we worked really hard and concentrated on this film to try and create something that was different."

Asked about his golf handicap, Smith said: "I'm probably a 14 right now."

Theron added: "I'm a seven. Also I'm an actor, which means I lie."

In the film, Hancock is not the type of person to care about other people's opinions until he saves the life of a PR executive Ray Embrey (Bateman).

He begins to realise he may have a vulnerable side after all, but facing that could be his biggest challenge yet.

But Ray's wife, played by Theron, insists that he is a lost cause.
