Half-naked models prowl for Bullets 4 Peace

Florida catwalk queens come out in protest

1 June 2009

IT'S time again for the annual Bullets 4 Peace protest - and this year the semi-naked catwalk models will stop at nothing to get their message across.

The catwalk prowl at Eden Roc Resort in Miami Beach, Florida, had a theme: Reloading Life Through the World of Fashion.

Stunning animal-themed body paint designs such as black cats, butterflies and scorpions were met with hippy cowgirls, army chic and skull mad girlies adorned in contemporary jewellery - with a conscience.

Bullets 4 Peace takes used bullet casings, which are intended to be recast and reused in streets and battlefields, and turns them into jewellery pieces which promote peace and compassion.

And the stars can't get enough of it. From Justin Timberlake to tycoon Donald Trump, actress Eva Longoria to rapper Snoop Dogg, bullets are are their new best friends.

Designer Rafi Anteby, an ex-officer in the Israeli army, said he had experienced violence and war first-hand and wanted to make a change.

He said: “I’ve witnessed many conflicts throughout my life, including wars in the Middle East and violence in Africa, and I am always amazed how mankind takes the beautiful world we were given and, unfortunately, fills it with chaos and mayhem.

"We live in a very sensitive time and space and I feel a strong need to make a statement that not only raises awareness but also gives back to community.”

Proceeds from sales help support various charitable organisations worldwide.
