Cute orphaned puppy raised by mother cat

Nature's greatest enemies united at last, possibly by accident, as snow-white fluffy cat decides to raise snow-white fluffy puppy

CATS and dogs. Proverbial enemies. A ceaseless battle that has been waged throughout recorded time, a history of bloody hatreds, countless casualties and regular calls to the fire brigade to rescue combatants stuck up trees.

Or so we thought – until now.

This loving mother cat in east China has taken pity on an orphaned puppy, raising it as her own offspring. The pup’s real mother apparently died of a haemorrhage during childbirth.

Admittedly the snow-white fluffy dog and equally snow-white and fluffy cat are pretty hard to tell apart, so maybe she’s just made an honest mistake here, but it would be nice to think that this is the start of a ceasefire.

Perhaps in a few years’ time this moment will be remembered among feline and canine folk everywhere as the day the war began to end.

Of course it’s perfectly possible it’s just another cute but entirely frivolous set of pictures, but why not be optimistic?

Maybe – just maybe – dog walkers will no longer have to restrain their ravening mutt in the park when it scents the enemy. Maybe cat owners will stop having to apologise to their neighbours when Moggy tears the next-door neighbour’s dachshund’s eye out with a claw.

Maybe we are entering a brave new world.
