Ian McGeechan names British and Irish Lions side for first Test in Durban
Harlequins winger Ugo Monye selected in Lions XV as they prepare to take on Springboks in series opener
18 June 2009
HARLEQUINS winger Ugo Monye has been selected to start in the British and Irish Lions' first Test match against South Africa in Durban on Saturday.
Monye, who has just six England caps, has impressed in the build up to the series opener and was rewarded by coach Ian McGeechan with a place in the starting XV.
The Test side have not played together in any of the six tour games to date, but McGeechan said he was prepared to accept that for the payoff of giving everyone in the squad enough of a chance to show what they could do.

The two teams also face each other at Pretoria on June 27 and Johannesburg on July 4.
