Andy Murray hails Roger Federer after Wimbledon quarter-final win
British number one praises Federer’s “ridiculous” record after the Swiss tennis star secured his 21st consecutive grand slam semi-final

“RIDICULOUS.” That’s Andy Murray’s assessment of Roger Federer’s career.
The two are on course for a Wimbledon final showdown on Sunday and, following his quarter-final win over Juan Carlos Ferrero, Murray hailed his fearsome rival.
Federer booked his place in the last four in what will be his 21st consecutive grand slam semi-final after overcoming Ivo Karlovic.
And Murray, who has a 6-2 record over the 14-time grand slam winner, said: “The consistency in the big tournaments is ridiculous.
“No one will ever match that, I don’t think. I don’t think it’s been surprising that, once he won a few slams, everyone was saying that he could be the best ever.
“Just to have no slip-ups, to have no injuries – maybe he has, but covered that well – to not be really sick or to miss one event, one slam through injury, it’s pretty incredible.”
Consistency is the key word and Murray knows all about the importance of maintaining that high level of excellence if he is to land his first grand slam.
This 7-5 6-3 6-2 win over Ferrero put him one step closer and now Andy Roddick awaits in what is Murray's first Wimbledon semi.
“I understand that I can lose my next match if I don’t play my best,” said the Scot.
“That’s been one of the things that I’ve learned and it’s made a huge difference to me over the past year or so.
“I realise that if I don’t bring my best game then I’m going to lose to guys like Roddick. I feel confident because I’ve won a lot of matches on grass.
“But every day when I get up to play matches, I know that I’m going to have to perform very well and that gets the nerves and the adrenaline going and makes me play better.”
