Niko Kranjcar on verge of Tottenham switch
Portsmouth and Croatia midfielder set for reunion with Harry Redknapp, as the Spurs boss looks to bolster his squad after Luka Modric broke his leg in Saturday’s win over Birmingham
1 September 2009
TOTTENHAM are close to completing the signing of Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar, according to reports.
Harry Redknapp, who managed the Croatia international while he was in charge at Fratton Park, reportedly fought off an 11th hour bid from Everton to secure his services.
"I'm really delighted. I signed him for Portsmouth and he's a fantastic player and a great lad,” the Spurs manager is quoted as saying.
"I've already got two fantastic Croatian players - Luka Modric and Vedran Corluka - who can help him settle in."
Redknapp is keen to strengthen his squad after key man Modric broke his leg in Spurs' 2-1 win over Birmingham City on Saturday.
The Croatia international, who has been a key part of a Spurs team that has enjoyed its best start to a league campaign in almost 50 years, is set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
