Leyton Orient defender Tamika Mkandawire warns against complacency

Mkandawire tells Orient teammates to keep their feet on the ground ater the O’s steamrolled Championship side Newcastle United 6-1 in pre-season friendly at Brisbane Road

TAMIKA MKANDAWIRE has warned his Orient team-mates not to get carried away after hitting Newcastle for six in their latest pre-season friendly.

Geraint Williams' men humiliated the troubled Toon with a rip-roaring display at Brisbane Road as Newcastle's millionaire playboys were given a brutal beating in east London.

But defender Mkandawire, who smashed home from close-range in the second-half, says Orient still have a long way to go before they are ready for their opening game of the season at Bristol Rovers on 8 August.

"We can still improve," said Mkandawire. "Even though we won 6-1, the passing wasn't as crisp as we might have liked.

"There's lots to improve on but it was a great experience - you want to play against the best players you can.

"It was a great team performance and we did really well. They didn't cause us too many problems. We passed the ball well and took our chances. Last year we struggled for goals so that was pleasing."
