Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has dismissed Arsenal as title contenders

The former Gunners and Liverpool hitman reckons it will be a straight fight between Manchester United and Chelsea for the Premier League crown

CHELSEA striker Nicolas Anelka has dismissed Arsenal and Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League.

The Blues hitman, who has had spells at both clubs, reckons the title will be fought out between Carlo Ancelotti's Blues and the champions Manchester United.

Arsenal sent out a message of intent to the rest of the Premier League after they thumped Everton 6-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday.

But Anelka, whose side came from behind to beat Hull City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge is not concerned about the Gunners' emphatic start to the season.

The Chelsea striker said: “Arsenal and Liverpool have some very good players but, when it comes down to the last five games, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was only United and Chelsea left fighting it out.

“The games against United will be very important and we are already one up on them this year after the Community Shield.

"We owe them for last season and we are confident that they will not make it four in a row.”

Anelka was quick to praise the impact of new boss Carlo Ancelotti since his summer arrival from AC Milan.

The Italian has deployed a new diamond formation at Chelsea, giving Anelka the chance to play alongside Didier Drogba.

And last season’s Premier League topscorer is revelling in his new role and reckons his striker partnership with the Ivory Coast international could be the best in Europe.

"Our manager is a legend and a born winner,” Anelka said.

“There is nobody at this club who doesn't have a winning mentality. It filters down right from the top, from the manager and the chairman. They know what they want and we know we have to deliver.

"With what we have in place here, I believe Chelsea can be victorious on all fronts this season."

Anelka added: "I really mean what I say. If we consistently play together, we can become the most feared strike partnership in Europe - and that includes the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"There are some great strikers in world football at the moment, like Fernando Torres and David Villa. But when you really need a goal, there is no better man to look to than Didier.

"He never gives up and his attitude for the team is fantastic. For me, he is the most complete striker in the world."

Is Anelka right? Will the Blues and United be the only ones battling for the title? Let us know what you think...
