THE GOOD: Arsenal’s six-shooters

Vintage Arsenal. Denilson set the tone with a sumptuous opener, before Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, captain Cesc Fabregas (twice) and Eduardo (left) joined the party. The question is, can the Gunners keep it up over the week in, week out grind that is the Premier League? They looked glorious on the attack, while new boy Vermaelen looks the business at the back.

THE BAD: Palace robbery

Whether you like Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock or not, this was astonishing. Palace striker Freddie Sears’ shot hit the back of the goal and bounced out.

The ref waved play on, and Bristol City netted a last-minute goal to win 1-0. Sympathy for the devil, or has one of the great whingers in Warnock got his just deserts?

THE UGLY: Whingeing Rafa

Rafael Benitez blamed the referee for not awarding two late penalties, but surely the Liverpool manager was really annoyed with himself. After all, his Reds were rubbish. But credit to Spurs: they deservedly beat one of the league’s title contenders and will fancy their chances of breaking the ‘Big Four’. It was a display brimming with belief and desire.
