Andriy Shevchenko told he can leave Stamford Bridge
New Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti calls time on the Ukraine international’s Chelsea career
28 August 2009
CARLO ANCELOTTI has told Chelsea flop Andriy Shevchenko that he can leave the club.
The Ukraine international has endured a torrid time since signing for the Blues in a multi-million-pound deal in the summer of 2006 and was sent on loan to his former club AC Milan for the entirety of last season.
But Shevchenko failed to live up to his past glories, and was told to return to Stamford Bridge.
Shevchenko featured in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Sunderland earlier this month, but was omitted from the Blues' Champions League squad.
Ancelotti, speaking ahead of their Barclays Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday, revealed Shevchenko had decided to move on because there was no guarantee of first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
The former European footballer of the year managed just 22 goals in 72 appearances for the Blues.
