Betting: Steve Mullen tips Burnley to make a swift return to the Championship

CLARET AND BOO: Burnley 4-11 for the drop

Burnley’s fans had barely left Wembley before the bookies were issuing prices that forecast a tale of woe for the Clarets.

Owen Coyle’s side are just 4-11 to be relegated in their first top-flight season since 1976 – with 6-4 on offer for them to stay up.

TOON TRAUMA: Newcastle 9-2 to win Championship

At first glance, the 9-2 on offer for Newcastle to win the Championship next season looks a decent bet.

That’s what Birmingham were this time 12 months ago and you’d think the Toon would be better equipped for the second tier.

But there are tough times ahead at St James’s Park and whoever the manager is next season will have to ship out almost the entire squad.

The 15 players earning more than £50,000 per week have to go and there won’t be much money to spend. I’d steer clear and West Brom look a better bet at 7-1 with Blue Square.

WEEKLY REVIEW: £50 down after a shocker

I wrote on Friday that I may be mad to tip Newcastle to beat Aston Villa and Sunday’s match confirmed my fears. We were unlucky in the UEFA Cup final but elsewhere was poor and we were £50 down to £10 stakes.
