Mother of murdered Deptford teen speaks of her loss

Mother of murdered Deptford teenager Adam Pervaiz pleads for information on the fatal stabbing

12 May 2009

THE mother of the teenager knifed to death last week today spoke about the loss of her "darling baby boy".

Adam Khan Pervaiz, 18, was found slumped in a stairwell in a block of flats on a south London estate.

Police believe he may have been in a fight the evening before the murder.

Two men have been arrested, one 18-year-old and one 20-year-old, and are in custody at a south London police station.

Pervaiz was pronounced dead at the scene after being found in Shearwater Court, Abinger Road, in Deptford last Thursday with stab wounds to his thigh.

He was the eighth teenager to be killed in London this year.

His mother Shazia Pervaiz is begging anyone with information about the murder to come forward.

She said: "I have lost a son who was loved by all his family. He was not only my son, he was my friend.

"Adam Khan Pervaiz is not a number, he is not another statistic, he was my son"

"Adam Khan Pervaiz is not a number, he is not another statistic, he was my son, a great brother, a friend and he has been cruelly taken away from us.

"I will not see Adam's children, my grandchildren, for he did not have the opportunity to pass on his bloodline.

"The person that killed Adam has his blood on their hands.

Deeply distraught, she added: "I love you Adam and the people that knew you love you too.

"You will be missed and never ever forgotten my darling baby boy.

"We all will share and cherish every moment we shared with you. It will be an honour and a duty for me, his mother, to live Adam's life to the full.

"Adam will see things through my eyes while resting in peace in his grandad's arms."

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Rick Murphy, from the Met's Homicide and Serious Crime Command, asked for potential witnesses to come forward.

He said: "I would like to assure any person who may have witnessed this tragic incident that if you come forward and speak to me your safety will be treated as paramount and appropriate protection and safety measures will be discussed."

It is believed Pervaiz had a row outside the same block of flats the afternoon before the murder - police are looking for a 20-year-old black man who was last seen wearing a black hooded top.

DCI Murphy added: "There may have also been at least two other youths present during this disagreement.

"I am making this appeal to the community of Deptford - if you saw the murder of Adam take place or believe that you may have information that may be relevant to the investigation to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4906 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
