You can't hurry grub!

Night Out:Find the perfect restaurant

Plus:More bars, cafes and nightspots

THELONDONPAPER today launches a campaign against aggressive table-turning in London’s restaurants.

This city is one of the most diverse and exciting in the world, with a rich mix of cuisines to match.

But for too long many of our restaurants – more often than not the ones charging the highest prices – have been allowed to get away with operating a production line-style mode of business with diners forced to bolt down their meals in a set period of time - or told there are specific sittings that dictate exactly when they can arrive and leave.

We understand the restaurant trade needs to make money and cannot afford to have every table taken up for hours by dawdling diners.

But imposing too-quick limits – 90 minutes, two hours – and hovering over tables to remind punters their clock is ticking is plain greedy, and bad manners.

Londoners pay a high premium for their food and deserve to be treated as valued guests, not irritants to be tipped out as quickly as possible.

We know Londoners feel aggrieved by this. A recent poll by website www.squaremeal.com.uk found aggressive table turning was one of our biggest gripes.

So from today our restaurant critic Feargus O’Sullivan will be grading restaurants according to their performance on this criteria.

And we’re calling on you as Londoners to support us. Let us know what YOU think - and name and shame the culprits - by emailing us here...
