Victim’s dad backs fire 'super-inquest'
The father of fashion designer Catherine Hickman backs plans for a 'super-inquest' into the tower block blaze in Camberwell that killed six residents
4 August 2009
THE father of a fashion designer killed in a Camberwell tower block fire has welcomed plans for a “super-inquest” into the tragedy.
Phillip Hickman’s daughter Catherine was one of six residents of the 14-storey Lakanal House who perished in the blaze on 3 July.
Catherine, 31, worked in a boutique in Notting Hill, designing clothes for clients, including Kylie Minogue.
Her father, 63, said he and his wife met local MP and Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman, who said the blaze would be fully investigated.
She has publicly backed plans for a “super-inquest”, or full public inquiry.
Hickman said: “Hopefully a super-inquest will prevent another terrible tragedy [and] we will get some closure.”
The cause of the fire has been linked to a faulty television. There was also speculation that alterations made to the block allowed the fire to rapidly engulf the building.
