A teenager and a 25-year-old are accused of attempted murder after they allegedly poured sulphuric acid down a young man's throat in a suspected 'honour crime' in Leytonstone

A TEENAGER and a 25-year-old man have appeared in court charged with attempted murder after they allegedly tried to kill a man by pouring acid down his throat.

The victim, a 24-year-old Muslim man who is believed to be Danish, was stabbed twice in the back, beaten with bricks and had sulphuric acid thrown over him as well as forced into his mouth in a suspected “honour” attack.

He was left fighting for his life after the brutal assault, which took place on Marchant Road, Leytonstone, east London, on 2 July.

The victim was reported to have been having an affair with a married Muslim woman. Police have denied reports that officers have warned the woman that her life is at risk.

The two suspects, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were due to appear before Waltham Forest Magistrates' Court today after being charged with attempted murder yesterday, Scotland Yard said.

The victim, who managed to escape and raise the alarm, remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition. He was reportedly blinded and his tongue was destroyed.

A total of seven males were originally arrested in connection with the inquiry.

The victim suffered burns to 90 per cent of his body in the attack three weeks ago.

A witness said: "I saw four men lashing out and kicking him on the ground.

"I shouted and they ran off, then one went back and started on him again.

"The poor man got up and ran straight into a tree, then staggered back to his house, tugging at his burning clothes and banging on doors, shouting for water."

Emergency services discovered the man staggering in agony, unable to speak coherently. Fire crews hosed him down in the street.

Neighbour Paulette Billings said: "I was woken by a man running up and down the street shouting and banging on doors.

"I didn't realise what a terrible thing had happened until the next day."
