23 July 2009
A LONDON woman has been warned that she is at risk of being murdered after a man had acid poured down his throat by a gang in an apparent "honour crime".
• Latest: Two charged over Leytonstone acid attack
The young married Muslim woman is alleged to have had an affair with the victim, a 24-year-old Danish Asian. He was stabbed twice in the back and beaten with bricks, before acid was poured all over him and forced down his throat.
He was blinded and his tongue destroyed in the attack, and he is on life support in hospital with burns to 90 per cent of his body. Seven people have since been arrested.
The woman and the victim both live in east London’s Asian community, and their relationship is believed to have angered her family by bringing dishonour upon them.
Officers have warned the woman that her life may be in danger. But she is believed to have told Scotland Yard that she is unaware of any threat.
The brutal attack took place in Leytonstone three weeks ago today. A witness said: "I saw four men lashing out and kicking him on the ground.
"I shouted and they ran off, then one went back and started on him again.
"The poor man got up and ran straight into a tree, then staggered back to his house, tugging at his burning clothes and banging on doors, shouting for water"

Emergency services discovered the man staggering in agony, unable to speak coherently. Fire crews hosed him down in the street.
Neighbour Paulette Billings said: "I was woken by a man running up and down the street shouting and banging on doors.
"I didn't realise what a terrible thing had happened until the next day."
Local Muslim community leader Imtiaz Qadir said: "Honour crime happens a lot in our community, especially the Pakistani community, but we do try to educate the people.
"It's a cultural thing that's come from back home. The elderly people have found it hard to adjust to society in England."
Seven young men have been arrested over the attack. Police are still questioning two, while five have been released on bail. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
