Two-year-old Avery Thompson comes face-to-face with a Bengal Tiger

Cat's amazing

8 May 2009

THESE amazing photographs show a tiger extending his paw to a little girl - perhaps to give her a cuddle - or more likely, reaching out for a tasty snack.

The scene looks like one of impending tragedy as the barrier is invisible in these images captured by amateur wildlife photographer Dyrk Daniels.

But fortunately, two-year-old Avery Thompson is separated from the powerful 370lb Royal White Bengal Tiger by a thick pane of glass.

With her back to the enclosure she is at first oblivious that the tiger, named Almos, has approached before turning to look into the eyes of the giant feline.

Daniels took the breathtaking shots at the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Washington.

"Avery had her back to the glass at first when Almos approached her, so she had no idea the tiger was that close"

The 44-year-old explained: “I did not realise to what extent it appeared that there was nothing between Avery and Almos until I reviewed the photo.

“Avery had her back to the glass at first when Almos approached her, so she had no idea the tiger was that close.”

He added: “Almos then brushed his paw on the window, this caught Avery’s attention.

“She turned round and was face to face with him - this startled her and she moved a few feet from the windows, but she was very brave and did not cry or scream.”
