Elise Tan Roberts aged 2 from Edmonton is youngest member of Mensa with 156 IQ
London toddler hailed as Britain's brightest child
30 April 2009
A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl from London has been hailed as Britain's brainiest child.
Elise Tan Roberts is the youngest member of Mensa with an IQ of 156.
She can recite the phonetic alphabet, do basic maths and knows the names of 35 capital cities.
Elise, who celebrated her second birthday four months ago, can also count up to 20 and read the words “Mummy” and “Daddy”.
Her proud parents Louise, 28, and Edward, 34, from Edmonton, north London, say they aren't pushy and want their daughter to enjoy being a toddler.
"She just loves to learn and never stops asking questions"
Louise said: "She just loves to learn and never stops asking questions. She's always on the go. She never stops.
"I want her to play and be a normal two-year-old. Her IQ is really high and should only go up, but if it goes down we won't be upset so long as she's happy."
Elise is in the top 0.2% of children her age in the country. She has a mental age of three years and ten months.
Edward adds: "She's my baby. She's still a kid and I want her to enjoy all the chances she has left to play."
Elise, who was born eight days late, took her first steps aged eight-and-a-half months and was running six weeks later.
She could even say her name at 11 months.
Professor Joan Freeman, a psychologist, who assessed Elise, said: "She is more than very bright and capable - she is gifted."
