London to enjoy scorching temperatures in one-day heatwave

Blue skies and sizzling temperatures are forecast for the capital today, but make the most of it as the glorious weather will be short-lived

A MINI heatwave is set to hit London today as forecasters predict scorching temperatures and wall-to-wall sunshine.

The mercury is tipped to reach a sizzling 30C which, if the forecast proves correct, will make today one of the hottest days of the summer.

But make the most of the Mediterranean-style weather while it’s here, because the hot spell is sadly expected to last only a day.

While the glorious sunshine we enjoyed in June makes a brief return, it will quickly be followed more typical British weather.

Rob Hutchinson from Meteogroup said: “It’s going to be a lovely day - dry, sunny and hot.

“There will be wispy high cloud around and almost wall-to-wall sunshine.

“Temperatures should reach the high 20s. Thirty celsius is not completely out of the question.

“But make the most of it, because it’s not going to last.

“After today there will be a return to more unsettled weather.”

The capital and the South East are expected to see the best of the temperatures, caused by warm winds from the continent, while the North and West will be cooler.

While the Met Office denies that today will be the last nice day of the summer, it forecasts a "mixed bag" of changeable weather, including cloud and scattered showers from Thursday onwards.
