London to bask in heatwave as rain hits rest of country
Capital will escape heavy showers as temperatures remain in mid-20Cs

DON’T pack away the sun tan lotion just yet.
The blazing weekend heat wave is set to continue for the rest of the week, forecasters said today.
The Met Office said the heavy showers that are expected to slam into England this afternoon will largely bypass the capital.
And temperatures will hover in the mid-20Cs for the rest of the week.
"The week is shaping up very nicely. It’s going to be 23C or 24C over the next few days with virtually no wind and just a slight chance of rain"
Tim Thorne, a forecaster, said: "The week is shaping up very nicely. It’s going to be 23C or 24C over the next few days with virtually no wind and just a slight chance of rain.
"There might be a hiccup on Wednesday when we have a few showers, but it will be fine again on Thursday and Friday."
Yesterday London basked in 26C as the capital was hotter than parts of Italy and Spain.
The parks were packed and thousands flocked to soak up the sun at garden bars and sporting events.
The Isle of Wight Festival’s run of sparkling sunshine continued as more than 50,000 partied at the summer’s first major music event.
But the fine spell has caused havoc for millions of hay fever sufferers, with the sunshine and lack of wind and rain sending the pollen count soaring.
The National Pollen and Aerobiology Unit warned of a high pollen count again in London today.
Forecaster Thorne added: "The pollen count is high right now because the sun brings the grass pollen out and there is no wind to blow it away. Normally it takes some heavy showers to cool the air."
