Dublin to London aircraft forced to turn around after lightning strike
6 June 2009
A HEATHROW-bound flight has been forced to turn around after being struck by lightning.
The Aer Lingus service from Dublin to Heathrow returned to Dublin Airport shortly after take-off at 12:25, a spokesman for the airport confirmed.
All passengers are understood to be well and placed on other flights.
Dublin Airport confirmed: "It took off at 12.25 and was between 8-12 minutes out and at 7,000ft when there was a lightning strike.
"They landed in Dublin at 12.48."
The news comes just days after an Air France flight carrying 228 people disappeared off the coast of Brazil. The aircraft is believed to have crashed into the Atlantic after flying through a lightning storm.
