Coldplay's Chris Martin backs charity helping raise money in memory of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen
Mizen charity
CHRIS Martin has backed a charity which is helping raise money in memory of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen.
The Coldplay singer and his bandmates have donated items for an auction to raise funds to help pay for buses to be used for the community where the 16-year-old grew up.
Jimmy died after he was attacked in a bakery in Lee, south London, in May last year.
Martin has donated a signed copy of the new Coldplay album, a photo and a t-shirt framed.
Family friend Phil Cone revealed the family contacted Chris to sing at his funeral last eyar as Jimmy was a big fan of Coldplay and the track Fix You was his favourite song.
The band could not make it due to previous commitments but sent a personal message of condolence to the family.
It was mentioned an auction was going to be held and Martin and his bandmates sent over the items as lots.
Mr Cone said: “Because we knew the fact that Coldplay was quite important to Jim and I was completely ecstatic they got in touch. The whole family was.
“We sent off request, but because they are the biggest band in the world we didn’t get our hopes up.
He added: “But they got in touch and posted personal condolences to the family. They proved they are just genuine, decent lads despite all the success.”
Other lots include rare music and sports memorabilia including a signed Elton John album, framed, with a pair his Versace underpants donated by Elton John, a signed shirt from Ronaldinho, a signed Manchester United squad photo featuring David Beckham and Ryan Giggs and a rare signed photograph of the late rockstar Janis Joplin.
The Jimmy Bus appeal is aiming to raise more than £22,000. The bus itself will be used for and by the whole community of Sidcup.
It have will Jimmy's name along the side acting as a lasting tribute to the popular schoolboy.
He added: “I am excited about this event for because of the honour of being asked to organise this by the Mizen's and to be involved with helping the community from my home town of Sidcup.
“I really hope that people across London and maybe further afield will see something that they would like to put a bid in for and do myself, the Mizen's and community proud.
The bus itself will be used for and by the whole community of Sidcup and have Jimmy's name along the side as a testimony to Jim.”
