CCTV hunt for man who battered girl

Pictures were released today of a man police believe was involved in an unprovoked attack on a lone teenage girl while she waited for friends at a crowded rail station.

Police are on the hunt for a beer-swilling youth (pictured left) over the vicious attack on the 18-year-old at Victoria. The victim was waiting for friends when a gang of men surrounded her. One of them punched and kicked her before dragging her to the ground in an unprovoked assault.

The man was captured on CCTV shortly after the incident which took place around 8.40pm on New Year’s Eve. PC Pina Maletta, from British Transport Police, said: “The woman was surrounded and then attacked by a male while she was waiting for a train. It was a very distressing and unprovoked incident on a lone female. Victoria station was very busy at the time of the offence and we believe there are several people who witnessed the assault who may be able to assist us with our inquiries.”

Clutching a Stella Artois beer, the suspect was with at least three other youths as security cameras caught him leaving the station and walking down the street shortly after the attack.

Police are urging anyone with any information on the attack to contact the Witness Appeal Line on 0207 391 5275.
