Camberwell fire victim escaped 9/11
Designer Catherine Hickman, one of the six people to die in tower block blaze in south London, narrowly escaped the attack on the World Trade Centres in New York
7 July 2009
THE fashion designer killed in the Camberwell tower inferno narrowly escaped death in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Catherine Hickman was moments away from the World Trade Center when the planes hit the towers.
Hickman died with five others in Friday's blaze when she became trapped on the 11th floor of the high-rise building.
Her father Phillip, 63, broke down as he recounted how she survived the Twin Towers attacks in 2001.
He said: "She was caught up in the dust. She immediately called to reassure us she was OK. So when she didn’t call after the fire, I knew something was wrong."
Hickman's boyfriend Mark Bailey was to propose to her when he returned from a trip to New York.
