Calum Davenport 'stable but progressing' after stabbing
West Ham United centreback wounded in both legs in stabbing at his home in Bedford - his sister's boyfriend has been charged with the attack

CALUM DAVENPORT, the West Ham United footballer left seriously injured in a stabbing at his home, is said to be in a “stable but progressing” condition.
Defender Davenport suffered severe wounds after he was allegedly stabbed in both legs with a kitchen knife by his sister's boyfriend in Bedford on Saturday.
Worrell Whitehurst, 25, is charged with attacking the 26-year-old and his mother, 49-year-old Kim Stupple, in the driveway of her home in Springfield Avenue in the town.
Today a spokeswoman for the Premier League club said Davenport, who underwent surgery at Bedford Hospital after the incident, was "stable but progressing".
She said they could not comment on reports that doctors said they were "confident" of saving the footballer's left leg, which it was feared he may lose after the attack.
Whitehurst was remanded in custody by Bedford magistrates on Monday. He is due to appear at Luton Crown Court on 16 November.
Since the attack another West Ham player has been struck by tragedy. Ian Collison, the 46-year-old father of midfielder Jack Collison, 20, was killed in a motorcycle crash en route to see his son play in the Hammers’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Upton Park on Saturday.
A West Ham spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with Jack and his family and we ask people to respect his privacy at a very difficult time for them.''
