Blind man beaten unconscious with his own walking stick in sickening East London attack
Blind man beaten
A BLIND man has been beaten with his own walking stick and kicked unconscious in a sickening unprovoked attack in East London.
The victim, who recently had one-sixteenth of normal sight restored to one eye after spending more than fifty years totally blind, was attempting one of his first unaided walks in Beckton when he was approached by two youths.
After a brief conversation he was subjected to the assault and eventually knocked down and robbed as he lay on the ground.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the attack which took place in Jake Russell Walk near Royal Albert Way Docklands Light railway station.
The victim, in his fifties, has been severely traumatised by what detectives have called a cowardly attack, and are calling on the public to bring the attackers to justice.
If you have information about the attack contact Det Con Neil Taylor on (020) 8217 5414, email neil.taylor@met.police.uk or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
