Davinia Turrell, the 7/7 lady in the mask, marries

Davinia Turrell, famous for holding a burns mask to her face on surviving the Edgware Road bombing in 2005, wed her partner in an emotional ceremony on Valentine's Day

12 July 2009

DAVINIA TURRELL, the woman who became a symbol of the 7/7 atrocities after she was photographed clutching a burns mask to her face in the aftermath, has married.

Turrell, who was wounded in the Edgware Road blast during the terror attacks four years ago, was revealed to have found love with business consultant Erik Douglass. The couple wed in an emotional ceremony in their local church on Valentine's Day.

Turrell’s good news comes after a £1m memorial to the attack's 52 victims was unveiled in Hyde Park on Tuesday – the fourth anniversary of London’s worst attack since the Second World War.

A neighbour of the couple, who live in Docklands, east London, said they were married on a sunny Valentine's Day this year.

"Everyone said it was a lovely wedding. They were surrounded by their families. They seem like such a happy couple"

The neighbour added: "Everyone said it was a lovely wedding. They were surrounded by their families. They seem like such a happy couple. They’re lovely. She was very excited about the wedding."

Turrell was travelling on the ill-fated Circle line train at Edgware Road before Mohammad Sidique Khan, the ringleader of the 7/7 bombings, blew himself up and killed six innocent people.

Turrell miraculously survived, but became a symbol of the horror after being photographed with her face covered in a burns mask and being moved to safety by part-time fireman Paul Dadge.

Dadge said of the photo: "It is not so much about me and Davinia. It represents what people went through on 7 July."

She spent nine days in the burns unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, but no longer bears the scars of her injuries.
