iPhone app to stop Tube platform hell
Apple iPhone will help you work out which carriage stops near exit
23 July 2009
A PIECE of computer wizardry is cutting journey times in the capital by telling commuters which Tube carriage they should travel inside to make a quick exit.
Tube Exits, an Apple iPhone app costing £1.59, helps passengers avoid a long walk along the platform by telling them which carriage stops opposite the exit at each station. The application, brainchild of Lance Stewart, 33, from Wimbledon, also reveals the exit side of the train.
Stewart quit his job at Virgin and spent eight days travelling to 270 Tube stations.
He thought of it when he had to push his way down the length of the platform at Oxford Circus. “It was an absolute nightmare,” he said.
