First Puppy Bo to star in own book

16 April 2009

THE OBAMA'S pet dog Bo has landed his own book – just days into his new role as the “First Puppy”.

The Portuguese Water Dog who was unveiled to the world's media at the White House on Tuesday, will feature in children's novel Bo, America's Commander In Leash, which is being released next week by Mascot Books.

The independent publisher from Virginia has rushed out the title to capitalise on the world media coverage of the Presidential family's new pet.

The creators have been researching the project for two months, leaving spaces for pictures of the dog before Bo was selected.

The publisher says Commander In Leash is "the first children's book starring the most famous dog in the world".

Readers are invited to join Bo in a host of adventures around the White House as he learns the significance and traditions of the famous Washington address.

Along the way, he will help the President Obama, wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia to settle into their new surroundings.

Bo will be found playing on the children's new swing set, planting vegetables in the White House's new organic garden, and playing basketball with the 44th US President.

The book comes as tax returns revealed Bo's new owners took home a combined income of more than £1.77million last year.

The vast majority of their earnings came from the sale of President Obama's best-selling books Dreams of My Father and The Audacity of Hope.
