Grime collective, Boy Better Know, team up with Timmy Mallett

Timmy's Back!

A London grime collective are set to have their own Saturday morning TV show – after teaming up with the unlikely figure of Timmy Mallett.

Boy Better Know filmed a version of the 1980s word quiz “Mallet’s Mallet” with the veteran TV presenter and released it on YouTube.

The collaboration has proved to be such a hit that they are now in talks with television producers over their own show.

Band member Skepta, 25, said: “We were playing Mallet’s Mallet ourselves and when we thought of filming it for YouTube we thought what better than to get the originator – Timmy Mallet.

“We had to work hard to find him but when we met him he was totally cool.”

Mallet’s Mallet was part of the TV presenter’s Wacaday show, which was a hit during the 1980s.

It was a word association game where contestants were hit over the head by his famed mallet for getting answers wrong.

Skepta, from north London, said: “I used to watch Wacaday when I was younger and wanted to go on it.

“Timmy is very funny, he kept poking fun at us.”

A spokesman for the band – who were booked by Peaches Geldof for her 18th birthday - confirmed they were in talks to make a Saturday morning show “in the mould of Wacaday.”

It is the latest success for the grime collective.

Band member Wiley’s single Wearing My Rolex is currently riding high in the UK charts, while the follow-up –“Rolex Sweep”– which features Skepta, is also set for similar success.

Rolex Sweep has become an internet phenomenon, receiving thousands of views on YouTube thanks to its accompanying dance.
