TWO children have died after a blaze swept through a block of flats in Camberwell, south-east London.
Thirty people were rescued from the 12-storey building on the Sceaux Gardens estate in Havil Street as 100 firefighters battled the fire.
Thirteen people have been taken to hospital already and three are believed to be in a serious condition. Seven are being treated for smoke inhalation.
The two dead children were a three-week-old baby and a seven-year-old, according to reports.
Fire crews have now brought the blaze under control and are carrying out searches of the smoke-logged building.
Emergency services were called at 4.20pm to Lakanal House, where seven floors were on fire.
Firefighters equipped with specialist breathing apparatus fought to reach those trapped inside.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said 18 fire engines had been sent to the scene, as well as an aerial ladder platform.
He said: "The fire is believed to have started on the fourth floor and to have spread rapidly to the 11th floor."
Sarah Gresty, who lives in Havil Street, said she could see a column of flames.
"The fire was going in quite a few flats," she said.
"It was shocking to see the quantities of smoke and flames."
