Take a bike tour of the London 2012 Olympic site
Check out the Greenway cycle path, which starts at Regent's Canal and runs east of Victoria Park
27 July 2009
WANT to check out the progress of the Olympic Park but haven’t been invited on an official tour?
A section of the Greenway cycle path, which runs east of Victoria Park all the way to Beckton, overlooks the construction area and takes you within a stone’s throw of the stadium itself. A half-hour round-trip, starting from the Regent’s Canal, allows you to see for yourself how work on the Games is taking shape.
“The Greenway is a great way to get close to the stadium. Seeing all that building work made me feel excited about what’s going to happen in three years’ time,” said thelondonpaper’s Guy Ivison.
But be warned: the route is not all pretty. The 2.3km stretch of the cycle path that links Victoria Park and West Ham station is undergoing improvements.
There will be resurfaced and wider cycle and footpaths, new signage, seating and improved access points, which will open the Greenway to thousands of spectators during the Games and after.
