Climate Camp plans summer protests in the City
15 April 2009
ENVIRONMENTAL activists are planning to bring more chaos to the capital with a summer protest.
Climate Camp has warned that the City and coal-fired power stations could be targeted between 26 August and 2 September. Leaders will meet in Brighton this week to finalise their plans.
A Climate Camp spokesman told thelondonpaper: “It has not been decided what will happen or what form it will take. It could be like the one at Kingsnorth power station, which lasted a week, or the Bishopsgate camp.”
More than 2,000 Climate Camp campaigners occupied the street outside the European Climate Exchange in Bishopsgate during the G20 protests. Police broke up the demonstration and protesters accused the Met of being heavy-handed.
The plans for another protest came after police foiled an alleged invasion of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottinghamshire. More than 100 alleged demonstrators were yesterday bailed after being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated trespass and criminal damage.
It was reported members of the group planned to chain themselves to equipment to bring the power station to a standstill. Climate Camp denied involvement.
