IT WAS a bloodbath for vampire flick Twilight at the MTV Movie Awards as it claimed five awards.

Heart-throb Robert Pattinson won three “golden popcorn” gongs at the star-studded bash in LA, including breakthrough performance male, and best fight with co-star Cam Gigandet.

As Pattinson, 23, and co-star Kristen Stewart, 20, accepted the best kiss award they playfully teased the crowd by pretending to lock lips.

Stewart also won best female performance, while the cast took home the award for best film.

Looking slightly bemused at his haul, Pattinson thanked Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke for "casting me when I was an absolute nobody".

The awards cap a remarkable year for the Barnes-born actor who was plucked from obscurity to star in a big budget Hollywood version of the Stephenie Meyer book.

A host of stars including Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, Hayden Panettiere and Sandra Bullock attended the event at the Gibson Amphitheatre.
