Police search offices of Dr Conrad Murray, physician to Michael Jackson

Officers search clinic of Dr Conrad Murray, who performed CPR on Michael Jackson as the singer lay dying

22 July 2009

AMERICAN police officers have searched the offices of the late Michael Jackson’s doctor for medical records as part of their investigation into the singer’s death.

Officers, believed to be from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), were seen to enter Dr Conrad Murray’s clinic in Houston, Texas. Local police officers guarded the front door.

Last night, Murray's lawyer Ed Chernoff confirmed that investigators had asked for additional documents from his client.

Murray served as Jackson's personal physician and was with him when he died at his home in California last month.

The doctor has been interviewed by police in Los Angeles as part of their investigation, but has not been considered as a suspect.

Prior to today's raid by federal drug agents, Chernoff said investigators were seeking more information from his client and additional medical records.

The lawyer added: "The coroner wants to clear up the cause of death. We share that goal."

Chernoff continued: "Based on Dr Murray's minute-by-minute and item-by-item description of Michael Jackson's last days, he should not be a target of criminal charges."

He also hit out at "erroneous media reports" concerning Murray, adding that his client needed round-the-clock protection and was unable to work.

Murray has been quizzed twice by investigators, with a third interview planned.
