IT would appear that there is a lot of money in essentially doing nothing.

Court documents show Paris Hilton, who has a reputation as an airhead, earns a staggering $11m (£7.3m) a year. The US socialite, 28, raked in $22m in 2006 and 2007 from "promotional duties".

The details emerged in a court case where she is being sued for $8m over an alleged failure to carry out duties in promoting 2006 film Pledge This!, on which she was an executive producer. Worldwide Entertainment Group says she led to it flopping.

The socialite and occasional actress raked in money for promotional duties, including $7,330,500 (£4,870,000) from perfume company Parlux Fragrances and a whopping $150,000 just for turning up to a Halloween party.

The documents have thrown up several other startling details of la Hilton’s life – including that she has never looked at her own phone bill, she doesn’t know who pays it and she loses her mobile about once a fortnight.

She also googles herself to see what she has been up to because she is too busy to keep tabs any other way.

She said: "I've never looked at my phone bill in my entire life. I never know [who pays it], because I lose it all the time.

"I probably get a new cell phone, like, every two weeks."

Explaining how she keeps herself up to date with her schedule she said: "I don't know. I'll just look around, just press my name and Google it and see."

Hilton is being sued over an alleged failure to carry out her duties in promoting the 2006 box office turkey Pledge This!, on which she was an executive producer.

On her involvement in the film, she said: "I'm not sure what a producer does. I don't know, help get cool people in the cast?"

Hilton, who denies failing to carry out her duties, is due in a Miami court in June.
