DAVID BECKHAM has told Cristiano Ronaldo he will love Madrid...because the shops are great.

Speaking for the first time about the Manchester United player's £80m world record move to Real Madrid, Becks said: "He will have a brilliant time out there, I loved the years that I spent there.

"There's brilliant shopping out there, and I'm sure he'll like that. And the going out's not bad either, there's lots of nightlife."

Ronaldo is on the verge of signing for Real Madrid after Manchester United revealed they had accepted a world record bid of £80m.

A statement on the Red Devils' official website said: "Manchester United have received a world record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

"At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.

"Matters are expected to be concluded by June 30. The club will not comment until further notice."

Becks joined Real Madrid in 2003. He left in 2007 to play for LA Galaxy.
