THESE days, airbrushing is so common that many of us have been known to tweak the odd picture or two before loading it on to Facebook.

But some MPs have had enough of the "retouching" trend - demanding that the process of making celebrities and models appear more "beautiful" should be banned.

Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson said the practice of altering pictures can harm young people's health and self-esteem and that “women are pressurised to conform to a narrow image of beauty".

Although the criticisms are mostly regarding adverts aimed at the under-16s, Swinson described airbrushing as “part of our damaging culture”.

We’ve tracked down a few examples of pictures that may have been airbrushed, including the famous photograph of Kate Winslet on the cover of GQ.

Kate, who embraces growing older and is proud of her curves, is so anti-airbrushing that she apologised when the picture was released back in 2003.

The 33-year-old actress said: “I don't want people to think I was a hypocrite and had suddenly gone and lost 30 pounds, which is something I would never do. And more importantly I don't want to look like that.”

Britney Spears appears to have undergone a spot of airbrushing in the album cover for Circus. Her long flowing locks are a touch shiny and her skin practically glows in the picture, whereas another more natural shot tells a different story.

There’s no doubt that Jessica Alba is one of the sexiest women in the world, but the picture above is a little too sleek to be true. The Campari bosses appear to have nipped her in her waist, despite the fact that the actress already has an almost unattainable figure.

On the other hand, Victoria Beckham attracted headlines by appearing to have a larger bottom than usual in adverts for her fragrance.
