The mind master made history last night when he appeared to pick the winning numbers in the National Lottery draw. Banned from buying a ticket, the goateed trickster successfully selected the six winning balls.
If only us mere mortals were capable of such feats, the nation’s economic strife would be over. Derren Brown might not be a bona fide magic man, but he is certainly not normal and last night’s feat was the culmination of “a year’s obsession”.
According to Brown, the BBC have the legal right to broadcast the Lottery results before anyone else, so his feat was beamed out to the masses just after the official announcement at 10.45pm. In contrast to the glitzy pomp and ceremony of the BBC show, our hero was all alone in an empty studio with two cameramen, a flat screen TV and the aforementioned ping-pong balls which bore the numbers 23, 35, 11, 28, 39, 02.
There were no commercial breaks, no visible editing and we’ll just have to trust him when he says it was filmed live.
For all you aspiring millionaires out there – Derren will be letting the nation into his secret tomorrow night on Channel 4 at 9pm.
