Twitter to host the first virtual comedy club
Log onto the Social networking site for some virtual hilarity with Carl Donnelly, Mark Watson, Mitch Benn and Matt Crosby
8 June 2009
The world’s first virtual comedy gig takes place tonight on Twitter. Ten comics will deliver their jokes via Haiku-like tweets of 140 characters.
Comics will wait for online heckles from their followers and then reply to them in person, making it a strangely intimate cyber affair.

Among the comics lined-up to virtually take part are Pappy's Fun Club, Carl Donnelly and Mark Watson, who has appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Mock the Week and Radio 4.
Mark Watson said: "It'll be strange because we won't be able to see the audience, so we'll be telling our jokes into the void.
"I don't think we'll be seeing comedy clubs closing but it'll be interesting to see what happens."
Other comedians joining in the webby fun are Radio 4 regular Mitch Benn and funnyman Matt Crosby.
