The Sims 3 (PC, Mac, iPhone, mobiles) is the game the franchise has been winding its way towards since the original’s release almost 10 years ago.
Far from being just another chapter, it feels like a smart reinvention informed by the shifts in technology and gaming culture. Gamers today demand customisation and pretty much everything in The Sims 3 is tweakable – including your character’s traits and career aspirations.
With the success of DS, iPhone and 360 Live Arcade, games need to be accessible but deep; instant and bite-sized but moreish and long lasting. The Sims 3 ticks all boxes.
In contrast to the previous games’ disjointed structure, The Sims 3 feels like a genuine sandbox experience. You can even turn on an immortal setting. But be warned: it’s a serious time-thief, and in making your virtual self immortal, you might just rob your real self of a life.
