My single The Show is pretty much the mood of my album. The message of that song, being that you can overcome feeling less than wonderful about your life, is something I often write about. You know, that feeling of “Got to try and find the joy”? Well, my music is all about that.

Jolly good show

I like to have a creative, crafty element to my shows, because if there’s a visual element then it’s fun, and that’s a good show for me. I build sets with my ­boyfriend. Right now, we’re travelling around with some mushrooms, Alice in ­Wonderland-style.

Bad show

There was a show in Denver where the people were sat in booths really placid. I got angry with the audience and that’s the worst thing. I was like, “Come down here!” and they wouldn’t, so I was like “Oh, you bastards.” I learned a lot from that ­because it really doesn’t help to abuse your audience.

Show tunes

My music was on 90210, apparently. I’m really happy to have my music on TV shows (Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy). It’s a very ­important part of the industry today. So many new fans have accessed my music through those shows and I also think that, having been an actor, I get a kick out of it ­because I can watch the show and still feel like I’m a part of it.

TV shows

I was a presenter on Australian kids’ cartoon show Cheez TV. It feels like ­another lifetime ago. I was in Home and Away for about a month playing Angel’s [Melissa George] sister in the 90s. There was another role that they offered me that Isla Fisher eventually did, but I didn’t want to commit to it.

Showing some skin

I’m really into 1950s cuts on girls. The sort of pin-up look: nice waistlines and nicely ­tailored dressers that I think are really sexy and nicely show off the female form. I don’t think it has to be skin that you show – more the shape.
