Amanda Blank - I Love You album review
Rating: 4/5 The blend of hip hop, electro and pop is what Peaches might have been

If “Amanda Blank” was a clue on the insufferable quiz show Blankety Blank, what might the blank stand for? Party girl? M.I.A.’s mate? Philly filth maven?
Amanda Blank is a name that’s been whirling in the background of my musical consciousness.
Part of the Philadelphia collaborative clique with Santigold and Spank Rock, the 26-year-old rapper/singer is what Peaches might have sounded like had she gotten her s*** together.
She peddles a ridiculously palatable blend of hip hop, electro and pop, given a royal seeing to by producers Diplo and Switch and XXXChange.
So the tunes behind the straight-talking rhymes are non-stop glitch and glock-cocking beats. But that’s not the end of it. Easy on the ear harps, hand claps and starbright synths compete for your attention.
When she raps she gives Lil’ Kim a run for her dirty-mouthed dollars, but when she sings, Blank slinks into Luscious Jackson territory with a smooth drawl. Shame On Me is a delight.
Oozing the buzzy electro glow of La Roux without needing to brace yourself for an aural knitting needle in your ear. Make-Up is an intravenous blast of vintage electroclash that stays put all day.
The understated disco of DJ is Britney after a bellyful of no good and a night in the cells. Leaving You Behind is a sweet surprise at the end of the record.
A lush expletive-peppered ballad with gorgeous Lykke Li backing vocals and sleigh bells. In September. Christmas has come early.
