Stellar first track from the stodgy Deptford band will have you spitting tea all over your keyboard - but it's a bit iffy from then on

The opening track to the Deptford band’s fourth album had me spitting tea all over my keyboard: “F*** me, have Athlete got good or are the bleeps and bloops distracting me?”

Superhuman Touch is a genius bit of reinvention, all 80s synths and catchy chorus that makes the ensuing three tracks feel like bumping back to fairly boring earth.

The sweet Love Come Rescue and upbeat Magical Mistakes are keepers, but otherwise this new outing passes by in a daze of meh.
