Linthwaite near Huddersfield is probably the last place you’d expect to find a cutting-edge, environmentally trendy spa, but tucked away in the wilds of South Yorkshire is Titanic Spa.

The spa, which was built in 1912 and named after the textile mill it once was and the ship that sank in the same year, plans to be carbon neutral by 2008.

The spa’s borehole extracts its own water and electricity is supplied from solar panels on the roof, while a biomass generator that burns wood chippings from industrial waste produces heat.

It is insulated to make sure it doesn’t waste heat in winter.
