Pete Doherty banned from London

Pete banned from London

Shambolic rocker Pete Doherty escaped jail today but was told by the court that he was banned from the streets of London.

The strict bail condition was imposed after he escaped being jailed - again - despite admitting four counts of drug possession and two driving offences.

The 28 year old was released on bail to give him a chance to stay clean with the condition he stays out of the capital for a month.

It came after a bizarre performance in court when he showed off the anti-heroin implants Kate Moss bought him before they split.

The Babyshambles front man had pleaded guilty to driving illegally while in possession of a cocktail of drugs including crack, heroin, ketamine and cannabis.

Judge Davinder Lachlar said: "What I have in mind is a community order or prison. If he does not show motivation, it's prison."

During the 20 minute hearing, Doherty smiled at his mother Jacqueline who was sitting in the public gallery alongside several fans..

The court was told Doherty had attended a week-long detox programme at the end of July but an unimpressed District Judge Davinder Lachher said she wanted to see more commitment from the star saying: "Anyone can do it for one week."

Part of the recommendation by the doctor on the detox programme is that Doherty should live with a family member, although it was not revealed where he would be staying.

However, his cheeky antics almost got him another spell behind bars when he tried to leave the court before the judge had finished.

As Judge Lachher was explaining her decision, she asked Doherty: "Do you understand?"

He replied "Yeah, I understand what you are saying to me," before starting to walk away.

Judge Lachher snapped "I haven't finished yet," to which Doherty replied cockily: "I know".

He was then warned: "If you don't want to wait I can make sure you go into the dock."

One of the singer's entourage in the public gallery shouted out: "Stop showing off."

Earlier the singer had wandered into the secure dock, as he had done on his previous appearance at the court when he appeared in custody for turning up two and a half hours late.

Outside West London Magistrates' Court in Hammersmith, the ecstatic singer said: "I'm banned from  London. I can't stay with my mum."

He then sped away in a car blowing kisses and flicking V-signs at fans and press.

He was bailed to appear again in court on September 4.
